United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC)
A part of the United Nations system, the UNHRC is responsible for promoting and protecting human rights across member countries. It holds regular sessions to review the human rights record of UN member states.
Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR)
Headed by the High Commissioner for Human Rights, this UN office has the mandate to promote and protect the human rights enshrined in international law.
Amnesty International
This is a global movement of millions of people demanding human rights for all people – no matter who they are or where they are. They investigate and expose abuses, educate and mobilize the public, and help transform societies to create a safer, more just world.
Human Rights Watch (HRW)
HRW investigates allegations of human rights violations and pressures governments and international organizations to address these concerns.
International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH)
FIDH is an international human rights NGO federating 192 organizations from 117 countries. It aims to promote respect for all the rights set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI)
This is an alliance of national human rights institutions (NHRIs) which are established and operate in accordance with the Paris Principles. GANHRI promotes the role of NHRIs worldwide.
International Commission of Jurists (ICJ)
ICJ is dedicated to ensuring the primacy, coherence, and implementation of international law and principles that advance human rights.
These are just a few of the global human rights commissions and organizations. Many countries also have their own national human rights commissions or institutions that function to protect and promote human rights within their respective jurisdictions.
